Founded by Lokesh Suji aka dAwesomeNinja, an esports Evangelist,Hustler & Telecom professional with 18+ yrs of experience, ILG is a result of Lokesh’s own extensive experience and his desire to do something in this space that defines him and has made him the person he is.
Over the years spent playing different types of esports, and across different formats and categories of games, we found that the vertical is unstructured and needed to be developed along professional lines – much in the same way that other forms of sport are being developed in the country. Our aspiration is to ensure that the category of esports is created and managed in much the same way as it is in countries like the North America, European Union, South Korea, China.
There are other factors which are now conducive to enable and be supportive of the category. The enormous growth and development in terms of Internet reach, use of smart phones and emergence of a youthful audience seeking entertainment on the go, along with the well known international game publishers who have also started taking India seriously now – are some of the additional factors that are enabling potential for esports in India. The time is right for this potential to be translated into a seriously successful vertical via focused action.
The ever evolving space spans a wide spectrum – with casual games on mobile devices on one end to evolved games on PC’s and consoles – which are extremely popular with the Indian online gaming community currently estimated to be over 120 million users, projected at 310 million by 2021.
“Of these there are some 10 million players who are actively involved in esports“
On realizing that the numbers substantiated the volume and value of category potential, the leap of faith was taken by us and ILG was born in March 2014.
